About Bryan McCormack

After finishing his early studies, Bryan McCormack left Ireland to travel the world. Today, he lives in Paris. He mostly creates large art pieces called installations and sculptures. These artworks are often designed for specific places and carry strong social messages.

Exploring His Art

Early Works (2003-2006)

In 2003 and 2004, Bryan McCormack showed his art in Turin, Italy. One piece, Who Are The Heros, looked at the sad effects of war. Another, Unleashing The Design of Imponderable Immortality on the Misguided, Servile Burgeoise, explored the differences between rich and poor people.

In 2005, he exhibited Intimate Whisperings While the Words Break Down in London. This artwork helped people think about mental health issues. That same year, in Paris, he showed The Diaries of John Doe (3). This piece explored why people might feel lonely in today's world.

In 2006, his installation See Nothing, Hear Nothing, No Nothing was shown in Paris. This work made people think about why some ignore big economic or social problems if they aren't directly affected.

Later Projects (2009-2015)

EAR-SPLITTING TIMBRE
EarSplitting Timbre commented on urban violence.

In 2009, McCormack created EarSplitting Timbre for UNESCO in Paris. This installation was about the dangers of car bombs and city violence.

In 2010, a huge sculpture called When Joris Ivens meets Hraesvelgr was placed permanently in the Park St. Cloud in Paris. This artwork makes us think about protecting our environment. It also honors a Dutch filmmaker named Joris Ivens.

In 2012, he presented Chromo Zone Y in Paris. This was an installation and a performance. It questioned the problems caused by poverty in our daily lives.

In 2014, Bryan McCormack created Van'Heart, a temporary shelter for homeless people. He worked with students from a college in Paris to build this special day shelter.

In 2015, he started a new project with the City Hall of Paris called UPP Urban ProjectParis. This project focuses on creating new types of art installations in the city.

Helping Refugees (2016-2017)

From 2016 to 2017, Bryan McCormack worked on a very important project called Yesterday/Today/Tomorrow. This artwork was shown at the Venice Biennale in 2017. It helps people understand the refugee crisis in Europe. It gives a voice to hundreds of thousands of people, many of them children, who have lost their homes.

In this project, each refugee creates three drawings:

  • One drawing shows their life (Yesterday) before they had to leave.
  • Another shows their life (Today) now.
  • The last drawing shows their hopes for the future (Tomorrow).

These drawings are the main idea behind the project. It's both an art installation and a way to share stories on social media. The project follows the journey of refugees from Greek islands to places like the UK. It creates a visual memory of their journey. Many refugees from different countries have taken part. Each drawing is important because it tells a story and gives a voice to someone who might otherwise be unheard.
