Bríd Ní Neachtain (born 1959) is a famous Irish actress. She is well-known for her roles in both Irish and English language movies and television shows, including the film Dancing at Lughnasa.

Early Life and Education

Bríd Ní Neachtain was born in Rosmuc, a village in the Connemara region of Ireland. Growing up, she spoke the Irish language as her native tongue. She went to school at Coláiste Chroí Mhuire in Spiddal.

As a young actress, she starred in a film version of the famous Irish novel Cré na Cille.

Acting Career

Starting at the Abbey Theatre

When she was a teenager, Bríd heard that the famous Abbey Theatre in Dublin needed an assistant stage manager. She wrote to the director, Tomás Mac Anna, and got the job.

Soon, he started giving her small acting parts in Irish language plays. Over time, her roles became bigger, and she began acting in English language plays as well. After a great performance in a play called Silver Dollar Boys, she was invited to join the Abbey Actors, the theatre's main group of performers.

Television and Board Membership

In the 1990s, Bríd left the Abbey Theatre to star in a new Irish language TV soap opera called Ros na Rún. This show became very popular in Ireland.

Because of her work in Irish language media, she was once a board member for TG4, the Irish language television channel.

Personal Life

Bríd Ní Neachtain is married to Fiach Mac Conghail, a former Irish Senator. They have two children together.

In 2008, she was featured on an Irish 55-cent postage stamp. The picture on the stamp was a still image of her from the film Cré na Cille.
