Buckeye Lake is a beautiful lake located high up in the mountains of southern Oregon, in a special protected area called the Rogue–Umpqua Divide Wilderness. It's found in Douglas County, about 35 miles (56 km) east of a town called Tiller.

Discover Buckeye Lake

Buckeye Lake is a peaceful spot nestled in the wilderness. Because it's "high-elevation," it means the lake is located far above sea level, giving it a cool, fresh mountain feel. The lake itself covers about 11 acres (4.5 ha) of water.

What Lives in the Lake?

This mountain lake is home to a type of fish called brook trout. These fish can grow quite large, sometimes reaching up to 18 inches (460 mm) long! If you enjoy fishing, this could be a great place to cast a line.

Visiting Buckeye Lake

Getting to Buckeye Lake is an adventure! You can reach it by following a forest trail, which means you'll get to enjoy the beautiful nature around you.

During the colder months, especially February and March, the lake can freeze over. If you're up for a challenge and love winter sports, you can even try ice fishing here. To reach the lake in winter, hikers often use snowshoes to walk over the deep snow. It's a unique way to experience the lake in a different season!
