The Bulgarian Wikipedia (which is Българоезична Уикипедия in Bulgarian) is the version of Wikipedia written in the Bulgarian language. It was started on 6 December 2003. On 24 May 2010, it grew to become the 32nd largest Wikipedia in the world. At that time, it also reached an amazing milestone: it had over 100,000 articles! By October 2015, it was the 36th largest Wikipedia edition.
How Bulgarian Wikipedia Works
The rules on the Bulgarian Wikipedia are quite clear and important. When there are disagreements about what to include or how to write an article, these issues are handled by a special group called the Arbitration Committee. This committee helps solve arguments about content. They can also decide to block users from editing or stop certain users from working on specific topics.
If someone thinks an administrator (a volunteer who helps manage Wikipedia) used their powers unfairly, they can ask the Arbitration Committee for help. Only this committee, or special global volunteers called Wikimedia stewards, can remove an administrator's special editing rights.
Bulgarian Wikipedia's Journey
The Bulgarian Wikipedia began its journey on 6 December 2003. Just two years later, on November 24, 2005, it reached an important milestone: its 20,000th article was created! At that time, it was the 21st largest Wikipedia in the world.
By December 26, 2007, the Bulgarian Wikipedia had grown even more, reaching over 50,000 articles. This made it the 30th largest Wikipedia by the number of articles.
A big celebration happened on 24 May 2010. To mark the creation of its 100,000th article, the famous Wikipedia globe logo for the Bulgarian Wikipedia was changed for a short time. It included the number "100,000" to show how far it had come!
