Bull Arm facts for kids
Bull Arm is a long, narrow inlet of the sea, like a finger of water reaching inland. It is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) long and 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) wide. This natural arm is located on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador, a province in Canada.
The innermost part of Bull Arm is near the town of Sunnyside. From there, it's only about 4.4 kilometers (2.72 miles) to Placentia Bay at Come by Chance.
What is Bull Arm?
Bull Arm is a special place known for its deep, calm waters. These features make it perfect for building very large structures. It's like a giant, natural construction yard.
The Bull Arm Fabrication Site
At Bull Arm, you'll find the Bull Arm Fabrication Site. This is a huge construction area where massive structures for the oil and gas industry are built. Two important structures built here are the Hibernia and Hebron Gravity-Based Structures (GBS).
Why was Bull Arm chosen?
Bull Arm was picked for this important work because of its natural features. It has a deep channel that connects to Trinity Bay. This deep water allows very large structures to be floated out to sea once they are finished. The calm waters inside the arm also provide a safe and stable environment for construction.
