Bull Run begins in a pond located about 1 mile west of the city of Greensboro, North Carolina. This starting point is also in Guilford County.

From its source, the stream flows generally towards the southwest. After its journey, Bull Run joins the Deep River. This meeting point is very close to Oakdale, North Carolina, about 0.1 miles southwest of the town.
