Bun'ō (文応) was a special way Japan kept track of time, like how we use years today. It was a Japanese era that came after an era called Shōgen and before Kōchō.

The Bun'ō period started in April 1260 and ended in February 1261. During this short time, the emperor of Japan was Kameyama-tennō (亀山天皇).

Important Events of the Bun'ō Era

  • 1260 (Bun'ō 1): A very important Buddhist monk named Nichiren wrote a famous book called Rissho Ankoku Ron. The title means "On Securing the Peace of the Land through the Propagation of True Buddhism." In this book, Nichiren shared his ideas about how to bring peace and safety to Japan through his Buddhist teachings.
