History
Competing in Eurovision
The group first tried to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010. Their song was called "Dlinnaja-dlinnaja beresta i kak sdelat' iz nee ajšon." They came in third place that year.
They tried again in 2012 for Russia's Eurovision selection. This time, their song was "Party for Everybody," and parts of it were sung in English. The group won the national competition! They got more votes than famous singers like Dima Bilan.
After winning, they went on to represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. They did incredibly well, finishing in 2nd place with 259 points. They received points from almost every country that voted! Sweden won that year with 372 points.
The group announced that any money they earned would be used to help build a church in their home village of Buranovo.
Helping to Rebuild a Church
In 2010, the Buranovskiye Babushki started a special fund. All the money they earned from their music was put into this fund. Their goal was to rebuild the Trinity Church in Buranovo. The original stone church was built in 1865. Sadly, it was closed and taken down in 1939. The wooden church that was there later was not in good condition.
By early 2014, the main brick structure of the new Holy Trinity church was finished. The outside walls were white, and the roof was green. The inside of the church was still being worked on. A stone monument was placed near the church. It has a plaque that says (in Russian) that the church was being built thanks to the Buranovskiye Babushki.
The new church was finally opened and made sacred on June 20, 2016.
