Burhan Kuzu (born January 1, 1955 – died November 1, 2020) was an important Turkish politician. He was a member of the Justice and Development Party. He served as a representative for Istanbul in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This is like the parliament or main law-making body in Turkey. He was a member for many years.

Early Life and Education
Burhan Kuzu was born on January 1, 1955. His family lived in a village called Şıhlı in Develi, Kayseri Province. He was one of nine children.
Sadly, his father passed away when Burhan was in primary school. His mother also passed away when he was in junior high. His father was a farmer and a village imam, which is a leader in a Muslim community.
When he was in high school, Burhan enjoyed theatre. After high school, he decided to study law. He went to Istanbul University to learn about laws and legal systems.
Becoming a Law Expert
After finishing university, Burhan wanted to become a judge or a district governor. He even started training to be a district governor. But then, he got an offer to work at the university.
In 1976, he chose to become an academic. An academic is someone who teaches and studies at a university. He earned advanced degrees in law from Istanbul University. His special area of study was Constitutional law. This is the part of law that deals with the basic rules of a country.
Between 1980 and 1982, he studied in Paris, France. He received a special scholarship to do research there.
Academic Career
In 1996, Burhan Kuzu became a full professor. This is a top teaching position at a university. He taught Constitutional Law at Istanbul University.
He also wrote many papers and books about law. He taught law to police students at the Police College. He was also a guest professor at other universities.
Political Career
Burhan Kuzu started his political journey in 2001. He helped create the Justice and Development Party, also known as the AK Party.
In 2002, he was elected to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. This meant he became a deputy, or a representative, for Istanbul. He worked in the parliament, helping to make laws for Turkey.
He was re-elected in 2007 and 2011. His party had a rule that members could not serve more than three terms in a row. Because of this rule, he could not run in the June 2015 election.
However, he was elected again in the November 2015 election. He served as the president of the Constitutional Commission in the parliament. This committee works on important laws related to the country's constitution.
Private Life and Passing
Burhan Kuzu was married and had two children.
He passed away on November 1, 2020. He was 65 years old. He died from COVID-19 after being treated in the hospital. He was buried in Edirnekapı Martyr's Cemetery after a religious funeral service.
