Burkhardt is a small, quiet place in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or a village. Instead, it's part of a larger area called the town of St. Joseph. You can find Burkhardt located between the cities of Hudson and New Richmond.

The Story of Burkhardt: How It Got Its Name

Long ago, Burkhardt had a different name. It was originally called Bouchea. This first name might have come from Peter Bouchea, who was one of the very first people to settle in the nearby city of Hudson.

Later, the community was renamed to honor a very important person in its history: Christian Burkhardt. Christian Burkhardt lived from 1834 to 1931. He was well-known in the area because he owned and operated the mills there. Mills were very important for grinding grain and processing other goods.

The name change happened thanks to a man named Guy Dailey. Guy Dailey was a politician who represented St. Croix County. He served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. The Wisconsin State Assembly is a group of elected officials who help make laws for the state of Wisconsin. During his time in office, Guy Dailey decided to rename the community in honor of Christian Burkhardt.
