Burnby Hall Gardens
Lily ponds, Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington

Burnby Hall Gardens is a beautiful place located near the center of Pocklington, in East Riding of Yorkshire, England. These gardens are very special because they are home to the United Kingdom's national collection of hardy water lilies. In fact, it's the largest collection of these amazing water lilies growing naturally in all of Europe! The gardens cover about 8 acres (which is about 3.2 hectares) and have two lovely lakes filled with these lilies. Major Percy Marlborough Stewart gave these wonderful gardens to Pocklington.

The lakes were first made for fishing. Today, they are home to pretty roach and carp fish. Visitors can even hand-feed these friendly fish! In 2024, Burnby Hall Gardens received a special Gold Award from Yorkshire in Bloom. This award shows how beautiful and well-kept the gardens are.

Exploring the Stewart Museum

The main house on the estate holds the Stewart Museum. This museum displays many interesting things collected by Major Percy Marlborough Stewart (who lived from 1871 to 1962). His collections include items and souvenirs from his many travels around the world. It's like a peek into his exciting adventures!
