Burr is a small place in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Florida Township.

A Look at Burr's Past

Burr has an interesting history, especially how it got its name. Like many places, it started small and grew over time.

How Burr Got Its Name

When the railroad first came through in 1886, this area was laid out as a town. It was originally called Stanley. This process of laying out a town with streets and plots of land is called platting.

Later, the name changed to Burr. This new name was chosen to honor an early settler in the area, a person named Burr Anderson.

The Post Office Story

A post office was opened in Burr in 1894. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. It helped connect the community with the rest of the world. However, as times changed and fewer people lived in the area, the post office eventually closed in 1953.
