History of Burt
Burt was officially planned and marked out in 1881. This happened when the railroad tracks reached this area. The city was named after Horace G. Burt. He was an important official who worked for the railroad company.

Education in Burt
The Algona Community School District serves the community of Burt. This district is responsible for the schools that students attend. It operates Algona High School.
Before this, Burt had its own schools called Burt Community Schools. Their sports teams were known as the Bears. These schools taught students from elementary to high school until 1989. After that, older students shared classes with Sentral High School. On July 1, 2001, the Burt school district joined with the Algona district. Now, all students in Burt attend schools in the Algona district.
Churches in Burt
Burt has two churches that are still open today. Both are Protestant churches: St. John's Lutheran Church and Burt Presbyterian Church.
Two other churches have closed over the years. The United Methodist Church closed in 2009. The Full Gospel Church closed in 1990. The town's cemetery is located at the very north end of Burt.
Community Groups
Burt has several active community groups. These groups help plan events and keep the town lively. Some of these include the Burt VFW, the Lion's Club, and the Women's Club.
Other groups are the Playground Committee, the Summer Celebration Committee, and the Burt Library Board. They all work to make Burt a great place to live.

- Bob Thaves (1924-2006) was a famous cartoonist. He was known for creating the comic strip Frank and Ernest.
