Action Figures and Model Kits
What are Busou Shinki Figures?
The Busou Shinki action figures first came out in Japan in September 2006. Many famous Japanese artists helped design these figures. Some figures were even sold outside of Japan.
Busou Shinki figures are like small androids. They are about 15 cm tall. They live in a fictional world where action figures are alive. All the stories in the games, anime, and comics happen in this same world.
The figures look like female androids. They often have stylish armor or mechanical parts. For example, the mermaid-themed Ianeira has a mechanical fish tail. The designers had a lot of freedom, so each figure looks unique.
How the Figures Work
All the figures use a special body called 'MMS'. This stands for Multi Moveable System. Masaki Asai designed this body. MMS figures have many joints. This lets them move and pose in many ways. You can also swap out different body parts. This means you can customize them easily without tools.
The figures use a 3.3/4mm standard for connecting parts. This makes sure all parts from the line fit together. However, it means they don't easily connect with toys from other companies.
Busou Shinki figures come in different types of packages.
- Full sets include a unique painted body, head, and a full set of gear.
- EX sets have a head and some gear, but no body.
- Light Armor sets are complete figures with less gear and a smaller stand.
- Bodies are just the MMS body with no gear.
Konami also made action figures for other series using MMS bodies. These figures can also be used with the Busou Shinki line.

's Megami Device line. Many of the original Busou Shinki creators, like Masaki Asai and Fumikane Shimada, also work on Megami Device. The first new figure, Edelweiss, came out in January 2019. It was part of a tie-in with a new smartphone game. However, the game was delayed.
New versions of Arnval and Strarf as Megami Device kits were also announced. These kits use a new design called Machinica. This new design is not compatible with the old MMS figures by default. However, adapters are available to connect them.

What Happened Next?
After the Busou Shinki action figure line stopped, some of the main creators moved on. Masaki Asai, who created the figures, and producer Toriwo Toriyama started working on the Megami Device line for Kotobukiya
. This new line has a similar idea and is seen as a follow-up to Busou Shinki. Designers Fumikane Shimada and Takayuki Yanase, who worked on Busou Shinki, also design for Megami Device. The official Megami Device webcomic is drawn by Karashiichi. This artist also drew the Hibusou Shinki webcomic for Busou Shinki. The new comic even has characters from Hibusou Shinki.
As part of the new Busou Shinki R smartphone game, a new Shinki named Edelweiss was released as a Megami Device model kit. Also, new Arnval and Strarf Megami Device kits were announced in 2015.
Pyramid Inc., the company that made the Battle Masters games, also made the smartphone game Alice Gear Aegis. This is another action game with "mecha girl" characters. Fumikane Shimada and Takayuki Yanase also worked on designs for this game. Alice Gear Aegis has also had collaboration model kits with Megami Device.
In 2018, Masaki Asai announced he was officially involved with the Busou Shinki revival. He worked on the Edelweiss, Arnval, and Strarf model kits. More new designs were planned as model kits.
However, the Busou Shinki R smartphone game faced delays. In February 2020, Asai said that development on the game had restarted. He also mentioned that Konami was not keeping him updated. Because of this, he stated he no longer considers himself part of the project. It's unclear if any other new designs will be released as model kits.
