Cornelis George Boeree (born January 15, 1952 – died January 5, 2021) was an American psychologist and a professor. He taught at Shippensburg University and was known for his work on understanding different types of personalities and the history of psychology.
About C. George Boeree
C. George Boeree was born in Badhoevedorp, a town near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. When he was four years old, in 1956, he moved to the United States with his parents and brother. They settled on Long Island, New York.
In 1972, he married Judy Kovarik, and together they had three daughters. He continued his education and earned his highest degree, a doctorate, in 1980 from Oklahoma State University. He passed away on January 5, 2021, at his home in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
His Work in Psychology
Boeree was a pioneer in making psychology available online. Starting in 1997, he wrote the first psychology textbooks that could be found on the internet for free. This meant students and anyone interested could learn about psychology without paying.
His online texts were very popular and were translated into several languages, including German, Spanish, and Bulgarian. He also published two physical textbooks: one about different personality theories and another about the history of psychology.
Creating a New Language
Besides his work in psychology, Boeree was also very creative with languages. He invented an auxiliary language called Lingua Franca Nova. An auxiliary language is a language created to help people from different countries communicate more easily.
He first shared Lingua Franca Nova online in 1998. He also helped create the dictionary for this new language.
