Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang (born April 1, 1942 – died October 12, 2020) was an important Indian politician. He was a member of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party. He served as a Member of Parliament and later as a Minister in the Nagaland state government.

Early Life and Family
Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang was born in a place called Noksen in the Tuensang district of India. He went to Guwahati University and completed his studies there.
He was married to Mrs. Alemla, and together they had a large family with five sons and five daughters. They lived in Dimapur. Sadly, Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang passed away in Kohima due to health issues, including complications from COVID-19.
His Career in Public Service
Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang had a long career serving the public.
Working for the Government
Before becoming a politician, he worked as an officer in the Indian Administrative Service. This is a special job where people help run the government. He was a Secretary in the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for the Government of Nagaland. This means he held a high-ranking position, helping to manage programs for young people and sports in the state.
He retired from this government job in 2002. After retiring, he decided to enter politics.
Becoming a Politician
Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang first tried to get elected in 2003 for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), which is like the state's parliament. He tried again in 2008, but he didn't win those first two elections.
However, he didn't give up! In the 2009 election, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha is a very important part of India's national parliament, where laws are made for the whole country. He represented the Nagaland Lok Sabha area.
In 2013, he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the Noksen area. After winning, he became the Minister of Education for Nagaland. This meant he was in charge of schools and learning for the entire state.
He first ran for elections with the NPF party. Later, in 2018, he joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party. He won the state election again and was given new responsibilities. He became the Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and also for Justice & Law. This shows he was trusted with many important roles in the government.
