His Career in Public Service

Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang had a long career serving the public.

Working for the Government

Before becoming a politician, he worked as an officer in the Indian Administrative Service. This is a special job where people help run the government. He was a Secretary in the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for the Government of Nagaland. This means he held a high-ranking position, helping to manage programs for young people and sports in the state.

He retired from this government job in 2002. After retiring, he decided to enter politics.

Becoming a Politician

Chongshen Mongkosungkum Chang first tried to get elected in 2003 for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), which is like the state's parliament. He tried again in 2008, but he didn't win those first two elections.

However, he didn't give up! In the 2009 election, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. The Lok Sabha is a very important part of India's national parliament, where laws are made for the whole country. He represented the Nagaland Lok Sabha area.

In 2013, he was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the Noksen area. After winning, he became the Minister of Education for Nagaland. This meant he was in charge of schools and learning for the entire state.

He first ran for elections with the NPF party. Later, in 2018, he joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party. He won the state election again and was given new responsibilities. He became the Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, and also for Justice & Law. This shows he was trusted with many important roles in the government.
