Caaguazú (pronounced ka-a-gwa-SOO) is a city and district in Paraguay. It is located in the Caaguazú Department, which shares the same name as the city.
Population of Caaguazú
Caaguazú is home to many people! The city part has about 63,000 residents. If you count the whole district, there are around 127,328 people living there. This information comes from the INE, which is like Paraguay's official group for counting people.
Caaguazú's Main Business
Caaguazú is famous for its wood! For a long time, it had the most sawmills in Paraguay. Sawmills are places where logs are cut into planks and other wood products. Because of this, Caaguazú is still called the "Wood Capital" of Paraguay. In Spanish, this is "Capital de la Madera."
Even today, Caaguazú has more than ten large wood factories. These factories make things like wood flooring. Many sawmills have moved to the northeastern part of Paraguay. This is because there are more trees and logs available there.
Getting Around Caaguazú
Two important national roads pass through Caaguazú. These are Route PY02 and Route PY13. Route PY02 connects Caaguazú to two major cities in Paraguay.
To the west, it connects to Asunción, which is about 173 kilometers (107 miles) away. To the east, it connects to Ciudad del Este, which is about 135 kilometers (84 miles) away. The closest airport to Caaguazú is Guaraní International Airport (AGT). This airport is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from the district.
