Caballococha (also spelled Cabalo Cocha) is a town in the Loreto Region of northeastern Peru. It is located right on the famous Amazon River. The town is also very close to the border with Colombia.
Caballococha is the main town for both the Mariscal Ramón Castilla Province and the Ramón Castilla District. In 1993, about 4,028 people lived there.
The name "Caballococha" comes from two languages: Spanish and Quechua. It means "Horse Lake," which is the name of a lake nearby.

Life in Caballococha
Most people in Caballococha make a living by farming, trading, and fishing. The town has been growing and now has access to television and the internet. You can even find an internet cafe in the main market square!
Getting around town is mostly done by motorcycle taxis. There are only a few other vehicles. An airport is being built, but it's not clear how much it will be used.
History of Caballococha
Caballococha played a part in an important event called the Leticia Incident. This event led to a war between Peru and Colombia in 1932. Today, there is a statue in the main square. It honors the soldiers who bravely carried supplies and ammunition through the thick jungle during that war.
