Loreto Region facts for kids
Loreto is the biggest region in Peru. It's located in the northern part of the country. Loreto covers almost one-third of Peru's total land! Even though it's huge, not many people live there. This is because it's deep in the Amazon rainforest, which makes it a bit remote. The capital city of Loreto is Iquitos.
Where is Loreto?
Loreto shares its borders with several countries and other regions in Peru. It's like a puzzle piece connecting different places!
- To the northwest, Loreto borders Ecuador.
- To the north and northeast, it borders Colombia.
- To the east, it borders Brazil.
- To the south, it borders the Ucayali and Huánuco regions of Peru.
- To the west, it borders the San Martín and Amazonas regions of Peru.
How Loreto is Organized
Loreto is divided into smaller areas called provinces. Think of them like big counties. There are eight provinces in Loreto. Each province has its own main city, which is called its capital.
