History of Cacao
Cacao was once listed in official Spanish records. This was before Puerto Rico became a part of the United States. This change happened after the Spanish–American War.
The war ended with the Treaty of Paris of 1898. This agreement meant Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of everyone in Puerto Rico. They found that 1,066 people lived in Cacao barrio at that time.
