Cadrete is a small and interesting town. It is located in northeastern Spain. You can find it very close to the city of Zaragoza.
Cadrete is special for a few reasons. It has an old Muslim castle. There is also a church built in the Mudejar style. This style mixes Christian and Muslim art. The town is also known for its delicious cardoons. These are a type of vegetable.
Recently, a very large wind turbine was built near the village. Some people feel it changes the look of the landscape. It can also create some noise for the people living there.
A Glimpse into Cadrete's History
Cadrete has a long and rich history. It was first settled by the Moors. The Moors were people from North Africa. They came to Spain a long time ago. They called the town Qadrit.
The Ancient Fortress
The Moors built a strong fortress. It was placed on top of a very steep hill. The town grew around this fortress. This was a common way for towns to develop. The fortress helped protect the people.
From Mosque to Church
The Moors also built a mosque in Cadrete. A mosque is a Muslim place of worship. Later, during a time called the Reconquest, Christian kingdoms took back land in Spain. The old mosque in Cadrete was then changed. It became a church. It still kept its beautiful Moorish style.
