Cairnwood is a huge historic house in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. It is about 26,000 square feet in size! This amazing home was built in 1895. It sits right next to the Glencairn Museum.
Famous architects named Carrère and Hastings designed Cairnwood. The beautiful gardens around the house were planned by Olmsted, Olmsted and Eliot. They were well-known landscape designers.
Cairnwood was built for John Pitcairn, Jr.. He was the president of a big company called Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company.

Exploring Cairnwood's Design
Cairnwood is a 2½-story house. It is made of Roman brick and limestone. Its style is called Beaux Arts. This style was popular in the late 1800s. It often features grand designs and classical details.
Rooms and Special Features
The house has an "L" shape. It contains 28 rooms! There is even a small chapel inside a round tower, called a turret. This chapel is on the third floor.
Other Buildings on the Property
Besides the main house, Cairnwood has other important buildings. There is a stable and a garden house. These were built around the same time as the main house. A garage complex was added in 1911. There is also a strong stone wall around the property.
Cairnwood Today
Today, Cairnwood is owned by the Academy of the New Church. It is no longer a private home. Instead, it is used for many special events. People host weddings, company meetings, and other parties there. It's a popular place for all kinds of gatherings.

Cairnwood is a very important building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. This means it is recognized as a place worth preserving. It is also part of the Bryn Athyn Historic District. This district includes several other important historic buildings in the area.
