Where Calbee Started
The company was founded in 1949 by Takashi Matsuo. He started it in Hiroshima, Japan, after World War II. His very first product was a candy called Calbee Caramel. This candy was named after "calcium" and vitamin B1. It was very popular! Because of how well the caramel sold, the company changed its name to Calbee in 1955.
Calbee Around the World
Calbee has grown a lot since it started. They have opened offices and factories in many different countries.
- In 1973, Calbee started working with a company in Singapore to sell its snacks there.
- In the 1970s, Calbee teamed up with Four Seas Group to bring its products to Hong Kong. Later, in 1994, they created a joint company together. They even opened a new factory in Hong Kong in 2000.
- In 1980, Calbee started a company in Thailand called Calbee Tanawat.
- Calbee International was launched in Hong Kong in 1992 to help sell snacks around the world.
- More recently, Calbee bought two companies in the United Kingdom. They bought Seabrook Crisps in 2018 and Warnock Food Products in 2019.
