Calbee, Inc. is a well-known Japanese company that makes delicious snack foods. It started on April 30, 1949. The main office for Calbee is in Tokyo, Japan.

Calbee makes many popular snacks. Some of their famous products include "Kappa Ebisen" shrimp chips and "Saya-endo" snow pea crisps. They also make tasty potato fries called "Jagabee." Calbee snacks are very popular in Asia and are also well-known in the United States.

The Story of Calbee

Calbee was started by Takashi Matsuo in 1949. This was in Hiroshima, Japan, after a big war. His very first product was a candy called Calbee Caramel.

The name "Calbee" comes from "calcium" and vitamin B1. Because the caramel candy was so popular, the company officially changed its name to Calbee in 1955.

Growing Around the World

Calbee started to share its snacks with more countries. In 1973, a company called Moh Seng in Singapore joined Calbee. This helped Calbee snacks become available there.

In the 1970s, Calbee worked with the Four Seas Group to bring its products to Hong Kong. Later, in 1994, they created a joint company called Calbee Four Seas. They even opened a new factory in Hong Kong in 2000.

Calbee also expanded into Thailand in 1980, creating Calbee Tanawat. In 1992, Calbee International started in Hong Kong to help with global business. More recently, Calbee bought snack companies in the UK, like Seabrook Crisps in 2018 and Warnock Food Products in 2019.
