Calderitas is a small town in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco. This area is part of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It's located on the eastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, right on Chetumal Bay. Calderitas is just northeast of the bigger city of Chetumal.
Weather Challenges
Because Calderitas is so close to the Caribbean Sea, it can be affected by strong storms called hurricanes. Two very powerful hurricanes have hit near Calderitas in the past.
Past Hurricanes
Hurricane Janet struck in 1955, and Hurricane Dean hit in 2007. Both of these storms were Category 5 hurricanes. This means they were extremely strong and caused a lot of damage when they reached land.
