Chetumal Bay is a large body of water found on the western side of the Caribbean Sea. It is located along the southern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula.
This bay is shared by two countries: northern Belize and southeastern Mexico. It's an important natural feature for both nations.
Where is Chetumal Bay?
Chetumal Bay opens towards the south. A large island in Belize called Ambergris Caye acts like a natural barrier, protecting the bay's entrance.
Corozal Bay
Inside Chetumal Bay, there is a smaller area of water known as Corozal Bay. This inlet stretches towards the southwest. It is named after the town of Corozal, which sits on its shores.
Cities on the Bay
The city of Chetumal is a major city located right on Chetumal Bay. This city is in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
