Caleb was once a small settlement, or a very tiny community, located in Riverside County, California. It's no longer there today, but it used to appear on maps.
What Was Caleb?
Caleb was a place that existed for a while but is now gone. Think of it like an old town that disappeared. It was located in the sunny state of California.
Where Was Caleb Located?
Caleb was unique because of its very low elevation. It was located at -180 feet (-55 meters) below sea level. Imagine being lower than the ocean! This makes it one of the lowest points in California.
The settlement was situated along the Southern Pacific Railroad line. This railroad was very important for moving goods and people across the country. Caleb was about 17 miles (27 km) southeast of a larger town called Indio.
When Did Caleb Disappear?
Even though Caleb is no longer a settlement, it was still shown on maps as recently as 1943. This means it was a recognized place for many years before it faded away.
