Early Life and High School Basketball
Caleb Homesley grew up in Indian Trail, North Carolina. He went to Porter Ridge High School there. In his junior year, he was a great player. He scored about 20 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and made 3 assists in each game.
On November 14, 2014, Caleb decided to play college basketball for Liberty University. Many other colleges also wanted him to play for them. In his final year of high school, he had a tough injury. He tore a ligament in his knee, which is called an anterior cruciate ligament.
College Basketball Career
When Caleb first arrived at Liberty University, his coach, Ritchie McKay, suggested he might do better at a smaller school. This motivated Caleb to work even harder. He got into better shape and improved his game.
Freshman and Sophomore Seasons
In his first year, Caleb played 32 games. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. During his second year, he got another knee injury. He tore the same ligament in his right knee during a game in December 2016. This ended his season early. He was playing very well, averaging 12.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. Because of this injury, he took a "medical redshirt." This means he didn't play that season, but he didn't lose a year of eligibility for future seasons. In his redshirt sophomore year, he averaged 7.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.
Junior and Senior Seasons
As a junior, Caleb was recognized as one of the best players in the ASUN Conference. He was named to the First Team All-Atlantic Sun. In the 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, Caleb had an amazing game. He scored a career-high 30 points, helping his team upset Mississippi State. That season, he averaged 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists. His team finished with a great record of 29 wins and 7 losses.
Before his senior year, Caleb was on the watch list for the Lou Henson Award. This award goes to the best mid-major college basketball player in the country. On February 8, 2020, he again scored 30 points and had nine rebounds in a win against North Alabama. At the end of the regular season, Caleb was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year. In his senior year, he averaged 15.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
