Calvin Leroy Van Pelt (born September 4, 1924, died September 25, 2011) was an important businessman from Oregon, a state in the United States. He was born in Alsea, Oregon. Van Pelt was known for his work in international trade and his service during World War II.

Early Life and Military Service

Calvin Van Pelt was born in 1924. When he was a young man, he joined the U.S. Army. He served during World War II, a major global conflict. Van Pelt was part of the brave soldiers who landed on Utah Beach in France. This was a very important part of the war. He also took part in other key battles in Northern France, Ardennes, and Rhineland.

Education and Business Career

After World War II ended, Van Pelt returned home to Oregon. He decided to continue his education.

College and Graduate Studies

He attended Pacific University and graduated in 1949. He then went on to study at the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management. He finished his studies there in 1950.

Working in International Trade

Van Pelt started his career at a company called Jantzen, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. He began as an "export trainee." This meant he learned how to help the company sell its products to other countries. He worked hard and eventually became the manager of Jantzen's international division. This role involved overseeing all of Jantzen's business with other nations.

Later, Van Pelt held leadership jobs at several other companies. These included Columbia Exporters, White Stag, Sea-Pac International, and Martin Sales International. He spent more than 20 years helping to create the World Trade Center in Portland. This center helps businesses in Oregon trade with companies around the world. He also served for several years as an "Honorary Consul" for South Africa. This role meant he helped represent South Africa's interests in Oregon.

Community Involvement and Awards

Calvin Van Pelt was very involved in his community. He served on the Alumni Board of Directors for Pacific University. This board helps guide the university. He was also an Elder for the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. This is a respected position within the Native American community. He also served on many other local boards and committees.

In June 2007, Pacific University honored Van Pelt. They gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognized his many accomplishments and contributions throughout his life. Calvin Van Pelt passed away on September 25, 2011, in Portland, Oregon.
