Calvin Lockhart (born Bert McClossy Cooper; October 18, 1934 – March 29, 2007) was an actor from the Bahamas and the United States. He was famous for his roles in movies like Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970) where he played Reverend Deke O'Malley. He was also known as Biggie Smalls in the 1975 film Let's Do It Again.

Early Life and Education
Calvin Lockhart was born Bert McClossy Cooper in Nassau, Bahamas. He was the youngest of eight children. His father, Eric Cooper, was a tailor. When he was 18, Lockhart moved to New York City, New York. He studied for a year at the Cooper Union School of Engineering. After that, he decided to become an actor. To support himself, he worked as a taxi driver and ran a carpentry business.
Acting Career Highlights
In 1960, Lockhart started his acting career on Broadway. He played a gang leader in a play called The Cool World. Later, he traveled to Italy and started his own theater company. He acted and directed plays there. He then moved to West Germany and England. In England, he got roles on British TV and in movies. Some of his early films were A Dandy in Aspic and Salt and Pepper in 1968.
Breaking Through in Film
Lockhart's first important movie role was in Joanna (1968). This film was about a romance between people of different backgrounds in London. His first main role in a movie was in Halls of Anger (1970). He played a former basketball star who becomes a vice-principal. In 1970, The New York Times newspaper described him as having "matinee-idol looks". They said he had "chiseled-out-of-marble features" and "skin the color of brown velvet".

He also starred as Reverend Deke O'Malley in Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970). This movie was based on a popular novel. In 1974, Lockhart became an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company in England. This is a very famous theater group. In the 1980s, he appeared in seven episodes of the TV show Dynasty. He played a character named Jonathan Lake. Horror film fans might know him from The Beast Must Die (1974). In this movie, he played a rich big-game hunter.
Later Years and Passing
In the late 1990s, Lockhart moved back to the Bahamas. He worked as a director for the Freeport Players Guild. His last movie role was in Rain, a film shot in the Bahamas. It was released in 2007. Calvin Lockhart passed away on March 29, 2007. He was 72 years old and died in a Nassau hospital from problems related to a stroke.

Calvin Lockhart was married four times and had two sons. In 1972, he married a model named Thelma Walters. They later divorced. In 1982, he married Lynn Sloan. They also later divorced. His fourth wife was Jennifer Miles. They married in 2006. One of his sons, Julien Lockhart Miles, is also an actor. He also had another son named Leslie Lockhart.
Pop Culture Connection
Calvin Lockhart played a character named Biggie Smalls in the 1975 movie Let's Do It Again. A famous musical artist, Christopher Wallace, used this name for his demo tape in 1991. Even after a lawsuit made Wallace change his name, people and the media still called him Biggie Smalls. He later became known as Notorious B.I.G..
