The Calyptronoma plumeriana is a type of palm tree. It has compound leaves that look like feathers. This palm tree grows naturally in Cuba and Hispaniola. Hispaniola is an island that includes both Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

About This Palm Tree

C. plumeriana palm trees usually grow one stem at a time. These stems can reach heights of 4 to 10 meters (about 13 to 33 feet). The stems are also quite thick, measuring 10 to 20 centimeters (about 4 to 8 inches) across.

You can find these palms in wet areas. They often grow close to the banks of streams. They prefer higher places, usually above 450 meters (about 1,476 feet) above sea level. In Hispaniola, if you go below 450 meters, you will find a similar palm called Calyptronoma rivalis instead.

How People Use It

Sometimes, people collect the petals from the male flowers of this palm tree. These petals can be eaten.
