The Camacinia othello is a type of large dragonfly often called the black knight. It belongs to a family of dragonflies known as Libellulidae. You can find this amazing insect in places like Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and parts of Australia (the Northern Territory and Queensland).

Meet the Black Knight Dragonfly
This dragonfly is quite big! Its wings can stretch about 115 millimeters wide. That's almost as long as a standard pencil! From head to tail, it measures around 65 millimeters.
How to Spot a Male Black Knight
Male black knight dragonflies have special dark marks on their front and back wings. These dark areas cover about one-third to one-half of each wing. It makes them look very striking!
How to Spot a Female Black Knight
Female black knight dragonflies look a bit different from the males. They have a light brown stripe along the front edge of each wing. This stripe goes almost to the tip of the wing. They also have light brown marks on the very tips of their wings.
Where Do They Live?
Scientists don't know a lot about exactly where these dragonflies prefer to live. We also don't know much about their daily habits. As of 2017, there were only 27 official records of them in the Atlas of Living Australia. This atlas helps track where different animals and plants live.
Are They in Danger?
Even though we don't know much about them, the black knight dragonfly is not considered to be in danger. This means their numbers are stable, and they are not at risk of disappearing.
