Cambio 16 is a popular magazine from Spain. It is written in Spanish. This magazine is published every month in Madrid, which is the capital city of Spain. A company called "Group 16" publishes it.

History of Cambio 16

Cambio 16 first started as a weekly magazine in September 1971. It played a very important part when Spain was changing from a dictatorship to a democracy. This big change happened after the rule of General Franco.

The people who started the magazine wanted to call it Cambio. This word means "change" in Spanish. But the government at the time wanted a longer name. So, they added "16" to the name. This was to honor the sixteen people who founded the magazine. These founders were all focused on bringing change to Spain.

Grupo 16, the company that owns Cambio 16, also started other publications. These include a newspaper called Diario 16 and a car magazine named Motor 16. They even had a radio station called Radio 16.

Where is Cambio 16 Made?

The main office for Cambio 16 is in Madrid, Spain. The magazine is a lot like famous American magazines such as Time and Newsweek. It covers similar types of news and stories.

Cambio 16 also publishes special versions for different parts of Spain. In Catalonia, it is called Canvi Setze. In the Basque Country, it is known as Aldaketa Hamasei. These names also mean "Change Sixteen" in their local languages.

Leaders of the Magazine

Many different people have been in charge of Cambio 16 over the years. Juan Tomás de Salas was the first director from 1972 to 1976. After him, José Oneto led the magazine until 1986.

Then, Ricardo Utrilla took over in 1986. Enrique Badía followed in 1988, and Luis Díaz Güell in 1989. Juan Tomás de Salas came back to lead the magazine from 1991 to 1994. Román Orozco was the director from 1994 to 1996. Since 2003, Gorka Landáburu has been the director.

What Kind of News Does It Cover?

Cambio 16 usually shares ideas that are in the middle ground or want progress. This means it often supports ideas that are balanced and look to improve society. The US Department of State described it as a "centrist" publication in 2000.

During the time of the Francoist State, Cambio 16 was stopped from publishing several times. This happened until Spain got its new Constitution in 1978. The magazine was a leader in investigative journalism in Spain. This means it was very good at finding and reporting important, often hidden, facts. The newspaper Diario 16, which no longer exists, was also known for this type of journalism.

In 1993, about 90,000 copies of Cambio 16 were printed.
