Camembert is a small village in north-western France. It is located in the Orne area, which is like a county.
This village is super famous because it's where the delicious camembert cheese was first made!
About Camembert Village
People sometimes call Camembert "The largest small village in France." This is because the village area is quite big, even though the main part of the village is small.
The central part of Camembert village has a few important buildings. You can find the Cheese Museum there, which is even shaped like a camembert cheese! There's also the Town Hall (called the Mairie in France) and the Church of St. Anne.
Another interesting place is the Ferme Président, which is a museum. You can also see Beamoncel, the house where Marie Harel lived. She was the person who created camembert cheese! Besides these, there are just three other small houses in the village center. The rest of the village area spreads out over a large countryside.
The Story of Camembert Cheese
Camembert village is most famous for the invention of camembert cheese. This special cheese was first made by a woman named Marie Harel way back in 1791.
Marie Harel was a farmer from the area. She developed the unique recipe for camembert cheese. Her creation became one of the most well-known cheeses in the world!
