Catherine Michelle Granato, known as Cammi Granato (born March 25, 1971), is a famous American former ice hockey player. She made history as one of the first women inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November 2010. Today, Cammi works as an assistant general manager for the Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team. She was the captain of the U.S. women's hockey team that won a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics. Cammi is also the younger sister of former NHL player Tony Granato and former Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato. She is a graduate of Providence College.

Cammi Granato has received many honors for her amazing career. These include the Lester Patrick Award in 2007. She was also inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2008. In the same year, she joined the US Hockey Hall of Fame. Her induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010 was a huge milestone. Later, in 2018, she was welcomed into the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame.

Playing for Team USA

Cammi Granato played in every World Championship for the United States. This was from the very first event in 1990 until 2005. In 1996, she was named USA Women's Player of the Year. Cammi was the captain of the U.S. women's hockey team that won a gold medal. This historic win happened at the 1998 Winter Olympics. On February 8, 1998, she scored the first-ever Olympic goal for the U.S. women's hockey team.

Throughout her national team career, Cammi played 205 games. She scored 186 goals and made 157 assists. This gave her a total of 343 points. She is still the team's all-time leading scorer. Before the 2006 Olympics, Cammi was unexpectedly cut from the team. This decision caused some debate. The U.S. team later lost its semifinal game to Sweden. They ended up winning the bronze medal instead of gold.

Playing for Other Teams

Cammi Granato also played hockey for Concordia University. This university is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In June 1997, the general manager for the New York Islanders, Mike Milbury, invited Cammi to join their training camp. However, Cammi decided not to go.

Later, Cammi played for the Vancouver Griffins. This was a professional women's ice hockey team. She played for them during the 2001–02 and 2002–03 seasons. The Griffins were part of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL).

Life After Playing Hockey

After her playing career, Cammi Granato became a reporter. She worked as a rinkside reporter for NBC's NHL coverage. She also served as a commentator for NBC. She covered women's ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. In 1998, Cammi was a commentator for Los Angeles Kings radio broadcasts.

Today, she hosts a podcast called On the Bus With Cammi & AJ. She hosts it with her former teammate, A. J. Mleczko.

Personal Life

Cammi Granato married former NHL star Ray Ferraro in 2004. They live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They have two sons together: Riley, born in December 2006, and Reese, born in December 2009. Cammi is also a stepmother to Ray's sons from his first marriage, Matt and Landon. Landon was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL. Cammi has four brothers, including Don and Tony, and one sister.
