The Campaign for National Parks (CNP) is a special charity in the United Kingdom. It works to protect and improve the amazing National Parks of England and Wales. Their main goal is to make sure these beautiful places are full of nature and open for everyone to enjoy.

CNP brings together many different groups that care about the environment and access to nature. These groups represent millions of people who love National Parks.

History of the Campaign for National Parks

In 1936, a group of people and volunteer organizations came together. They included groups like The Ramblers and the YHA. Their goal was to start a campaign for National Parks in Britain. They called themselves The Standing Committee on National Parks. They had a big dream: everyone should be able to enjoy the finest countryside, and these landscapes should be protected forever.

After the government passed laws in 1949 to create National Parks, the role of the Standing Committee changed. They focused on making sure the National Parks had enough power and money. They also watched carefully for any plans that might harm the parks' natural beauty or stop people from enjoying them.

In 1977, the group changed its name to the Council for National Parks. Then, in June 2008, it became the Campaign for National Parks, which is its name today.
