Camporelli are special cookies from Italy, sometimes called biscotti Camporelli. They are light and crispy, made with just three simple ingredients: flour, sugar, and eggs. What makes them unique is that they are baked twice! This gives them their famous round, long shape, super crispy edges, and a lovely golden color. Unlike many cookies, they don't use butter or other fats. People enjoy Camporelli in different ways, like in tiramisu desserts, with ice cream, or simply by themselves as a tasty snack.
A Sweet History
The idea for Camporelli cookies started a long time ago with a similar cookie called biscottini di Novara. Nuns in the Novara area of Italy used to make these cookies as gifts for the clergy (church leaders).
Then, in 1852, a baker named Luigi Camporelli in Novara decided to bring this tradition back. He started making and selling his own version of these cookies in his family bakery. That's how the delicious Camporelli cookies we know today became popular!
