Canarreos Archipelago facts for kids
The Canarreos Archipelago (which is Archipiélago de los Canarreos in Spanish) is a group of islands and islets that belong to Cuba.
This beautiful archipelago is found south of Cuba's main island, right in the sunny Caribbean Sea. It's bordered by the Gulf of Cazones to the east, the Gulf of Batabano to the north, and the Los Indios Channel to the west.
The Canarreos Archipelago is made up of about 350 small islands. It stretches out for a long distance, almost as long as the well-known Florida Keys in the United States!
Main Islands of Canarreos
The largest island in this group is Isla de la Juventud. Its name means "Island of Youth" in Spanish. It is much bigger than all the other islands put together.
The second largest island is Cayo Largo del Sur. This island is famous for its lovely beaches and is a popular place for visitors to enjoy the sun and sea.
While there are many small islands, most of them are not lived on. Only a few have people living there permanently.
