Candelaria is a small community, also called a barrio, located in the town of Lajas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 3,599 people lived there. It's a part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
History of Candelaria
Puerto Rico has a rich history. After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,208 people lived in Candelaria barrio at that time. Over the years, the population of Candelaria has changed, as shown in the table below.
