When she was seven, she switched to the alto saxophone. She also joined a local band called Jeugd Doet Leven, which means "Youth Brings Life."

First Performances

Candy played her first solo on stage with her father's band, De Perikels. When she was eleven, she made her first recordings for their album I Didn't Ask.

In 1982, at just twelve years old, she played with Rosa King's Ladies Horn section at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Rosa King encouraged Candy to become a band leader. So, in 1984, when she was fourteen, Candy started her own band called Funky Stuff.
