The Canim Lake Band is a self-governing group of First Nations people. They are part of the larger Secwepemc Nation. In their own language, Shuswap, they are called Tsq'escen'.

This community is located in the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. Their main land area, called an Indian reserve, is near Canim Lake, British Columbia. This is also close to the town of 100 Mile House. The Canim Lake Band's reserve system was set up in the 1860s by the government of British Columbia.

The Canim Lake Band is a member of the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council. This council helps different Secwepemc communities work together.

The people of Canim Lake are known as the Tsq'escenemc. This name means "people of standing rock" in the Shuswap language. Their community is known as Tsq'escen', which means "standing rock".

The Canim Lake Band has never signed a treaty with the Canadian government. This means they have not officially given up their rights to their traditional lands. They are currently working with the governments of Canada and British Columbia to create a final treaty. An "Agreement in Principle" was signed in 2018. This is a first step towards a full agreement. When a final agreement is signed, their current reserves are expected to become part of larger lands fully controlled by the Canim Lake Band.

Canim Lake Band's Lands

The Canim Lake Band has five official land areas, or Indian Reserves. The government of British Columbia created these reserves a long time ago. The Band has always said that their traditional territory is much larger.

After a final agreement is signed, these reserves are expected to become part of bigger lands. These new lands will be fully managed by the Canim Lake Band.
