Canoochee is a small place in Emanuel County, Georgia, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a recognized area, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

According to the 2020 census, about 70 people live in Canoochee. A road called Georgia State Route 192 goes right through the community.

People in Canoochee

Canoochee was first counted as a census-designated place (CDP) in the 2010 census. In 2010, 71 people lived there. By 2020, the population had slightly decreased to 70 people.

History of Canoochee

The name "Canoochee" might come from the Muscogee language. A linguist (someone who studies languages) named William Bright thought it could mean "little ground."

In 1912, the Georgia General Assembly (which is like Georgia's state government) officially made Canoochee a "Town." Its town limits stretched out about half a mile from the Savannah and Statesboro Railway depot. However, the town's official status was ended in 1995.
