Cap de la Nau facts for kids
The Cap de la Nau (also called Cabo de la Nao) is a famous piece of land that sticks out into the sea in eastern Spain. Its name means "Cape of the Ship." You can find it on the coast of the Gulf of Valencia in the Mediterranean Sea. In English, some people just call it Cape Nao.
Where is Cap de la Nau?
Cap de la Nau is located in the town of Xàbia, which is in the Alicante province of Spain. This area is part of the Valencian Community. The cape is the most eastern point of the Valencian Community. It also marks the southern edge of the Gulf of Valencia. From the cape, you can look out towards the island of Formentera in the Balearic Islands.
What is the Cape like?
The cape itself is very rocky and steep. It is mostly made of a type of rock called limestone. Below the cape, there is a large cave called Cova dels Orgues (or Cueva de los Órganos in Spanish). You can only reach this cave by boat from the sea.
The Lighthouse
At the very top of Cap de la Nau, about 120 meters (394 feet) above the sea, stands a lighthouse. This lighthouse is very important. It helps ships navigate safely along the coast, especially at night or in bad weather.
