Capitán Bado is a city in Paraguay. It's part of the Amambay department. The city was started on July 25, 1914. This happened during the time Eduardo Schaerer was in charge. Capitán Bado sits in the Amambai Mountains. These mountains are in northern Paraguay.
What's in a Name?
The city is named after José Matías Bado. He was an army officer from Pilar. José Matías Bado fought in the Paraguayan War. This war was also called the War of the Triple Alliance. In this war, Paraguay fought against Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil.
Before it was called Capitán Bado, the city had another name. It was known as Ñu Verá. This name comes from the Guarani language. It means "bright field".
Where is Capitán Bado?
Capitán Bado is about 110 kilometers from Pedro Juan Caballero. It is a border city. This means it is right on the edge between Paraguay and Brazil.
The city is located at the foot of the Amambay mountain range. Only one street separates it from the Brazilian city of Coronel Sapucaia. This street is called Avenida Internacional (International Avenue).
