Plot Summary
Meet Professor Poopypants
The story begins with a super smart scientist named Professor Pippy P. Poopypants. He's from a make-believe country called New Swissland, where everyone has funny names. Professor Poopypants comes to the United States with two amazing inventions: the Shrinky-Pig and the Goosy-Grow. He wants to show how these machines can help the world by shrinking garbage and growing food. But guess what? Everyone just laughs at his silly name instead of listening to his brilliant ideas!
George and Harold's Pranks
Meanwhile, at Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, George and Harold are up to their usual tricks. The whole school is supposed to go to The Piqua Pizza Palace, a cool restaurant and arcade. But George and Harold change the sign, and Mr. Krupp catches them! As punishment, they can't go on the trip. Instead, they have to clean the teachers' lounge.
Of course, George and Harold get their revenge! They set up a huge prank in the lounge. After the field trip, the teachers walk right into the trap. They end up covered in glue and foam pellets, looking like funny abominable snowmen! Mr. Fyde, the science teacher, thinks he's going crazy and quits. This means Mr. Krupp needs a new science teacher.
Professor Poopypants Becomes a Teacher
Professor Poopypants sees an advertisement for a teaching job at the school. He thinks kids will be kind and sweet. So, he applies and gets the job! But the kids at Jerome Horwitz Elementary are just like the adults. They spend days laughing at his silly name.
The professor finally gets their attention by building a robot that makes gerbils jog. But even that doesn't last long. Later, Ms. Ribble reads the story of The Pied Piper of Hamelin. This gives George and Harold an idea. They draw a comic book about Professor Poopypants trying to take over the world. This comic makes the professor lose his temper completely!
The Professor's Big Plan
Furious, Professor Poopypants uses his gerbil machine to shrink the entire school! He holds everyone hostage and plans to give them silly new names. He has a special system with three charts to make sure everyone gets a ridiculous name. George and Harold become Fluffy and Cheeseball. Captain Underpants becomes Buttercup Chickenfanny, but he refuses to change his name!
Fluffy and Cheeseball try to get Captain Underpants to steal the professor's enlarging machine. But Captain Underpants and the machine get shrunk too! The boys try to enlarge the school back to normal, but they get flicked off. Cheeseball quickly makes a paper airplane, and Fluffy enlarges it. After some dangerous moments, Captain Underpants rescues them.
Captain Underpants to the Rescue!
Fluffy then enlarges Captain Underpants to the size of a gerbil. Captain Underpants bravely defeats Professor Poopypants! When the professor is defeated, everyone's names go back to normal. The boys use the machines to bring themselves, the school, and Captain Underpants back to their regular size. But Captain Underpants gets soaked with water, turning him back into Mr. Krupp.
Professor Poopypants is arrested for his crimes. George and Harold suggest he legally change his name so no one will make fun of him anymore. He takes their advice and changes his name to his grandfather's name, Tippy Tinkletrousers. But this only makes the prisoners and police officers laugh at him even more, which makes him even angrier!
