Captain Underpants is an illustrated children's novel series by American author and illustrator Dav Pilkey. The series revolves around two fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, living in Piqua, Ohio, and Captain Underpants, an aptly named superhero from one of the boys' homemade comic books, that accidentally becomes real when George and Harold hypnotize their ill-tempered principal, Mr. Krupp. Soon after, Krupp gains superpowers by drinking alien juices in the third book.
As of early 2019, the series includes 12 books and 10 spin-offs, and won a Disney Adventures Kids' Choice Award on April 4, 2006. As of 2016, the series had been translated into over 30 languages, with more than 80 million books sold worldwide, including over 50 million in the United States. DreamWorks Animation acquired rights to the series to make an animated feature film adaptation, which was released on June 2, 2017 to positive reviews.
After the main series concluded with the twelfth novel, Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-A-Lot, in 2015, a spin-off series titled Dog Man was released the following year.
As of early 2019, this spin-off series has seven books.

- The Talking Toilets- Toilets that shout "YUM, YUM, EAT 'EM UP!"and eat people, created when George and Harold wrote it in a comic book, and fed it to an animating machine created by Melvin Sneedley
- The Turbo-Toilet 200- The master of the talking toilets.
- Jennifer - an evil alien from Mercury
- Zorx and Klax - Jennifer's innocent cousins. They tried helped him take over Earth.
- Professor Poopypants- a scientist from New Swissland that forced everyone to change their name to what the Name Change-o-Cart 300 says. Later changed his name to Tippy T. Tinkletrousers.
- Wedgie Woman - Ms. Ribble after hypnosis from George and Harold
- Evil George and Evil Harold - George and Harold's evil twin from the alternate dimension, first met when a horrible accident with the time machine occurred
- Captain Blunderpants - Captain Underpants' evil twin from the alternate dimension
