Nicholas Kroll (born June 5, 1978) is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer. He is famous for his roles in TV shows like The League and Kroll Show. He also co-created and stars in the popular animated Netflix series Big Mouth and Human Resources. Kroll has lent his voice and acting talents to many movies too, including Sausage Party, The Secret Life of Pets 2, and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.

Early Life and Education
Nick Kroll was born in Rye, New York, on June 5, 1978. His parents are Lynn and Jules Kroll. His father is a successful businessman who started a company called Kroll Inc.. Nick is the youngest of four children. He has a brother named Jeremy and two sisters, Vanessa and Dana.
He grew up in a Jewish family. Nick went to the Solomon Schechter School of Westchester and then to Rye Country Day School. He also spent some time at The Mountain School in Vershire, Vermont, where he learned to love hiking. In 2001, Kroll graduated from Georgetown University. He studied history and also took classes in art and Spanish.
Comedy and Acting Career
Early in his career, Kroll wrote for TV shows like Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show and MTV's Human Giant. He also toured as a comedian with Aziz Ansari. Kroll performs stand-up comedy, sketches, and plays different characters. In 2011, he had his own stand-up special called Thank You Very Cool on Comedy Central.
He is well-known for creating funny characters. One popular character is Bobby Bottleservice, who appeared in online videos for Funny or Die. Other famous characters include Ref Jeff, Fabrice Fabrice, and Gil Faizon. Gil Faizon is part of The Oh, Hello Show, which Kroll created with his writing partner John Mulaney. Many of his characters were featured in his sketch comedy show, Kroll Show, on Comedy Central. In 2013, Nick Kroll won the Breakout Star of the Year award at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.
The Oh, Hello Show
Kroll and John Mulaney toured the U.S. with their show called Oh, Hello. In this show, they played their characters Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland. The show was very popular and even went to Broadway in New York City in 2016. It ran for six months and received good reviews. The Broadway performance was filmed and released on Netflix in 2017.
Television Roles
Kroll's first big TV role was in the ABC sitcom Cavemen. Even though the show was short-lived, he learned a lot from the experience. He then appeared on VH1's Best Week Ever. He also had guest roles on popular shows like Parks and Recreation, Community, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and New Girl.
From 2009 to 2015, Kroll had a main role as Rodney Ruxin in the comedy series The League. At the same time, he created and starred in his own sketch comedy show, Kroll Show, which aired from 2013 to 2015. Kroll also did voice work for animated shows. He voiced Stu in The Life & Times of Tim, Andrew LeGustambos in Sit Down, Shut Up, and Reuben Grinder in WordGirl.
In 2017, Kroll co-created, wrote, and starred in Big Mouth, an animated show on Netflix. The show is about a group of 7th graders going through puberty. Two of the main characters, Nick and Andrew, are based on Kroll and his childhood best friend, Andrew Goldberg. Kroll voices Nick, along with other characters like Coach Steve, Maurice the Hormone Monster, Lola, and Rick the Hormone Monster.
Film Appearances
Nick Kroll has had supporting roles in many comedy films. These include Sing, Dinner for Schmucks, Date Night, Get Him to the Greek, and I Love You Man.
In 2017, he voiced the villainous Professor Poopypants in the animated superhero movie Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. Critics praised his funny and energetic voice performance. Some even said his voice made the character's silly lines sound amazing. In recent years, Kroll has also taken on more serious acting roles. He played Bernie Cohen in the historical drama Loving and Rafi Eitan in Operation Finale.
Writing a Book
In 2005, Kroll co-wrote a book called Bar Mitzvah Disco. He wrote it with Jules Shell and Roger Bennett.
Personal Life
Nick Kroll met landscape artist Lily Kwong in 2018. They got married in November 2020. Their son was born in January 2021, and their daughter was born in November 2023. Kroll's brother-in-law is journalist Roger Bennett. His wife's cousin is fashion designer Joseph Altuzarra.
