Nicholas Stoller (born March 19, 1976) is a talented filmmaker from both Britain and America. He is well-known for directing funny movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), Get Him to the Greek (2010), and Neighbors (2014). He also helped write many popular films, including The Muppets (2011) and its sequel Muppets Most Wanted (2014). Nicholas Stoller has also created and worked on several TV shows.

Early Life and Education

Nicholas Stoller was born in London, England, in 1976. He grew up in Miami, Florida, in the U.S. His brother, Matt Stoller, is a writer who focuses on politics. Nicholas's mother, Phyllis, works with travel tours, and his father, Eric, is a bank executive.

Stoller went to high school at St. Paul's School in New Hampshire. Later, he studied at Harvard College. While at Harvard, he wrote for The Harvard Lampoon, which is a famous comedy magazine. He also performed with an improv comedy group called The Immediate Gratification Players.

Nicholas Stoller's Filmmaking Career

Nicholas Stoller began his career in the early 2000s. From 2000 to 2001, he wrote for a TV show called Undeclared. He then helped write the comedy film Fun with Dick and Jane in 2005.

Directing Comedy Films

Stoller directed his first movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, in 2008. It was a romantic comedy starring actors like Jason Segel and Mila Kunis. The movie was very popular.

In 2010, he wrote and directed Get Him to the Greek. This film brought back some of the actors from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, like Jonah Hill and Russell Brand.

He also directed The Five-Year Engagement (2012), which he co-wrote with Jason Segel. This movie was about a couple's journey through a long engagement. In 2014, Stoller directed Neighbors, a comedy about a young couple living next to a noisy college fraternity. He also directed its sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, in 2016.

More recently, he directed Bros (2022), which was a romantic comedy.

Writing for Popular Movies

Besides directing, Stoller has written for many well-known films. He wrote Yes Man (2008), which starred Jim Carrey.

He also co-wrote The Muppets (2011) with Jason Segel. This movie brought the beloved Muppet characters back to the big screen. After its success, Stoller also helped write the sequel, Muppets Most Wanted (2014).

In 2016, Stoller wrote and directed the animated comedy film Storks. This movie was about storks who deliver babies. He also helped write Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017) and Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019).

Television Work

Nicholas Stoller has also worked a lot in television. He co-created the TV series The Carmichael Show (2015–2017).

With his wife, Francesca Delbanco, he created the comedy TV series Friends from College, which started on Netflix in 2017. Stoller directed all the episodes of the first season. He also co-created and directed the TV series Platonic (2023–present).

His company, Stoller Global Solutions, has a deal with Sony Pictures Television to create more projects.

Nicholas Stoller's Personal Life

Nicholas Stoller met his wife, Francesca Delbanco, in 2001. They met at a writing workshop for Harvard graduates. They got married in September 2005. Nicholas and Francesca have two daughters together. Francesca's father is the writer Nicholas Delbanco.
