Story Time: What Happens in the Book?
The Invention Convention Chaos
Jerome Horwitz Elementary School is getting ready for its yearly Invention Convention. George and Harold, known for their pranks, are banned from joining this year. Why? Because last year, they put glue on everyone's seats! They are stuck in study hall instead.
The boys decide it's not fair and plan to mess with other kids' inventions. But then they meet Melvin Sneedly. Melvin is the school's super smart, but also super annoying, tattletale. He's working on his invention, the PATSY 2000. This machine can make a flat picture come to life! He shows them by putting in a photo of a mouse, and out pops a real one.
George and Harold promise not to mess with Melvin's invention if he doesn't tell on them. But their pranks cause the Invention Convention to be canceled again. Melvin breaks his promise and tattles on them to Mr. Krupp.
Detention and a New Comic
Mr. Krupp, the grumpy principal, is furious. He sends George and Harold to detention for the rest of the school year. He warns them they'll be suspended if they leave the room. The boys have to write lines for two hours.
Using a clever trick, they finish their lines super fast. To pass the time, they create a new Captain Underpants comic book. They call it "Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets."
Toilets Come to Life!
George and Harold want to make copies of their new comic. They sneak out of detention, even though they know Mr. Krupp will suspend them. The school's copy machine is busy, so they use Melvin's PATSY 2000, thinking it's a normal copier.
But guess what? The talking toilets from their comic come to life! George and Harold realize Melvin's invention really works. They run away, but Mr. Krupp catches them. He suspends them right away and won't listen to their wild story about living toilets.
Captain Underpants to the Rescue!
While the teachers celebrate George and Harold's suspension, trouble starts. Mr. Meaner, the gym teacher, gets eaten by a toilet! Ms. Ribble snaps her fingers at a toilet, and suddenly Mr. Krupp turns into Captain Underpants!
Captain Underpants, George, and Harold chase after the toilets. They find Ms. Ribble on a toilet table. Captain Underpants uses his underwear to help defeat the toilets, and they throw up all the teachers!
The Turbo Toilet 2000 Appears
Just when they think it's over, the giant Turbo Toilet 2000 bursts out of the school! It swallows Captain Underpants whole. George and Harold sneak back to Melvin's machine. They use it to create a super-powered robot called the Incredible Robo-Plunger!
The Robo-Plunger plunges into the Turbo Toilet 2000's mouth, saving Captain Underpants. Mr. Krupp worries about the damage to the school. But the Robo-Plunger fixes everything! It then flies off to Uranus and promises never to return.
A Carnival and More Trouble
Mr. Krupp is so happy that he cancels George and Harold's detention. He even lets them be principals for the day! The boys throw an all-day carnival for the students. They put the teachers (and Melvin, for tattling!) in detention.
At the end of the day, Mr. Krupp asks how they paid for the carnival. George and Harold reveal they sold his old furniture and other items! Mr. Krupp gets super angry. Miss Anthrope snaps her fingers, and Mr. Krupp turns back into Captain Underpants!
The Comics Inside the Book
Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets
This is the comic George and Harold make in the book. In this story, a UFO zaps the school, making the toilets come alive to eat everyone! Captain Underpants shows up and puts plungers in their mouths. Then, the leader, the Turbo Toilet 2000, appears. Captain Underpants gives it a wedgie on a stop sign, sending it flying into the UFO! Both explode.
The Top Secret Truth About Captain Underpants
George and Harold want everyone to know how Captain Underpants came to be. So, they make this comic to explain what happened in the first book, The Adventures of Captain Underpants.
Part 1: Meet the Boys
This part introduces George and Harold as cool kids. It says everyone loves their homemade Captain Underpants comics. But their principal, Mr. Krupp, hates them!
Part 2: The Hypno-Ring
This section explains how Mr. Krupp tried to blackmail George and Harold. So, they bought a 3D Hypno-Ring and hypnotized Mr. Krupp. They made him believe he was Captain Underpants! He jumped out a window and headed to an old warehouse. It was Dr. Diaper's secret base! But it exploded before Captain Underpants could get in. George and Harold, who were chasing him, ran away too.
Part 3: Back to Normal (Mostly)
They head back to school. George pours water on Captain Underpants's head, and he turns back into Mr. Krupp! George and Harold warn everyone not to snap their fingers around Mr. Krupp. If they do, he'll turn back into Captain Underpants! So, nobody snaps their fingers, and things are peaceful.
Did You Know? The Title Changed!
Some early versions of the book say "Another Epic Novel by Dav Pilkey" on the cover. Later versions say "The Second Epic Novel by Dav Pilkey."
