The Carbonera Lighthouse (called Faro de carbonera in Spanish) is an active lighthouse. It stands on a place called Punta Mala in La Alcaidesa, Spain. This lighthouse helps guide ships sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar.
History of the Carbonera Lighthouse
The first lighthouse here was built a long time ago, in 1588. It has been fixed up and made new several times. People restored it in the 1700s and again in 1989.
This lighthouse is also known by another name: Torre de Punta Mala. Near the lighthouse, you can find the small ruins of an old building. This building was once called the Casa de Carbonera, which means "charcoal-maker's house."
