La Alcaidesa is a special kind of neighborhood in Spain. It's called a gated community, or urbanización in Spanish. You can find it near Sotogrande, in the Andalusian province of Cádiz. It's part of two towns: La Línea de la Concepción and San Roque.
This area is easy to reach from the main coastal road, Autovía A-7. La Alcaidesa has amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea. You can also easily get to Gibraltar, the Campo area, and the cities of Algeciras and Marbella. For safety, it has two guarded entrances and security patrols. There's even a fire station just for La Alcaidesa, built in 2008.
The town is famous for its two golf courses. One is a links-style course, which is quite rare in Spain. The other is a more traditional course. There's also a popular beach called Playa de La Alcaidesa. This beach connects to Playa de La Hacienda. From here, you can see Gibraltar, which is a British territory.

How La Alcaidesa Grew
Building in La Alcaidesa started in the 1990s. A company called La Alcaidesa Inmobiliaria, which was a partnership between Costain Group and Banesto, owned the land. Over time, other builders have added more communities here.
As Spain's economy got better, new building projects started. Several new homes are being built, and more are planned. There are a couple of hotels in La Alcaidesa. One hotel, Aldiana, mainly serves German visitors. A small shop selling everyday items opened in 2011. There is also a pharmacy.
You can find two restaurants in the town square. There's also a beach bar that stays open all year. It serves many different meat and fish dishes. A new shopping area has also been built, and many shops are now open there.
Recent Changes and Events
In July 2015, the ownership of the land changed. This was because of money owed to Banco Santander. Now, Santander owns the two biggest areas of land for development. The Costain Group still owns the golf courses and the marina.
In July 2016, there were wildfires in the area. Many homes and hotels in La Alcaidesa had to be evacuated for safety.
In 2019, a company called Grupo Millennium bought Alcaidesa Holding and its golf company. They paid over €15 million to the Costain Group. They plan to build new villas and a hotel.
In the summer of 2020, work began on this new five-star hotel. It will be called "La Hacienda." This will be the first hotel of its kind in the Campo de Gibraltar area. The new hotel will have 144 rooms and offer beautiful sea views.
